Season 5: Siegesiege. A timed, large-scale attack on a settlement — attackers try to destroy it, defenders try to hold it. of Vegas is live in Battlefield 6, shipped as Game Update 2.1.1.0 on October 13. EA’s roadmap called it “our biggest season yet” beforehand, and the delivery matched: two maps, four weapons, a new REDSEC mode, the official launch of Ranked Battle Royale, and the broadest anti-air rebalance the game has had. A hotfix followed two days later.
The roadmap went up on October 9 and the full notes on October 12, so the launch held no surprises for anyone who read them. The useful questions now are which numbers moved, what the hotfix did and did not fix, and what was deliberately held back.
What changed: Season 5: Siege of Vegas went live on October 13 in Game Update 2.1.1.0, adding Vegas Strip and Area 51, the Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40, Rapid Royale, and the official launch of Ranked Battle Royale. Why it matters: ground anti-air was buffed across the board and Scout Helicopter rockets were cut back, while Airstrikes in Rapid Royale remain disabled after the October 15 hotfix. Who should care: pilots, the infantry shooting at them, and REDSEC players whose class just lost a Field Training path.

The four-hour gap between the download and the content going live is the practical first line: patch early and the update is installed before the maps open.
The four new weapons, and what each is for
The roadmap says the new arsenal covers “everything from close-quarters firefights to long-range engagements,” and the four guns split along that line.
| Weapon | Archetype | What the source says | Practical role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mk 24 | Assault Rifle | “becomes deadlier at longer ranges while balancing its power with a limited magazine capacity” | Precision over volume |
| RSPR | SMG / Personal Defence Weapon | “major stopping power from its rifle cartridge”; the roadmap places it “between the SG 553R and SCW-10 in terms of performance” | Short-range punch, tempered by higher recoil |
| Z84M | Light Machine Gun | “A belt-fed Light Machine Gun built to dominate at close range. With a 100-round capacity” | Sustained suppression; the roadmap flags “significant recoil and handling trade-offs” |
| ELR-40 | Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle | “very long-range sweet spot,” and its “single-shot mode moves the sweet spot to shorter distances” | Area 51 sightlines by default; the single-shot option changes its role |
Two caveats matter on day one. The Mk 24’s roadmap entry calls it an AR that “trades magazine capacity for consistent performance and exceptional damage at range” — but MP1ST’s October 15 report lists the gun’s underbarrel attachment temporarily disabled while developers investigate an unintended interaction. The weapon is live; part of its attachment set is not.
The ELR-40 is the more interesting design decision. The roadmap says its custom single-shot ammunition “completely changes its role,” shifting the sweet spot into close range with functionality “longtime Battlefield players may find familiar.” For Recon players that is two weapons in one slot, traded by configuration rather than by a separate unlock. The update also added Season 4 catch-up challenges for the BROD 3, the Interdictor and the VSSM.
Vegas Strip and Area 51: two maps with opposite problems
Vegas Strip is the vehicle-friendly one. EA describes it as supporting “all combat sizes, land vehicles, and helicopters,” combining “open sightlines and large-scale vehicle battles” with fountains, casinos, rooftop ziplines, hotel towers and “storm drains built for close-quarters combat.” Its problem is that it hands aircraft the sightlines they want, which is why the anti-air pass below matters most here.
Area 51 runs the other way: jets, helicopters and tanks dominate the desert surface while the central crater leads into a classified underground facility of tight corridors. EA singles out three play verbs — launch a dirt bike over rolling hills, pilot a jet across the landscape, and “bring down the Air Traffic Control tower to reshape the battlefield.” A tower that can be deleted mid-match is a destruction setpiece in the Frostbite tradition, covered in our 2026 Frostbite engine breakdown.
Rapid Royale, Ranked Battle Royale and the REDSEC class rebuild
Rapid Royale is the new REDSEC mode and it is deliberately smaller and meaner than standard Battle Royale: a “lower player count, airdrops containing some of the best loot in the game, and the fastest ring of fire.” It runs across maps including Vegas Strip and Mirak Valley, and kills feed redeploys rather than ending your squad’s match.
Ranked Battle Royale stops being an experiment at the same time. EA’s notes say it “officially launches with Season 5, moving beyond Battlefield Labs and into a new competitive chapter for REDSEC,” with redesigned Ranked badges and new rewards. Multiplayer gets Leaderboards, “a new way to measure progress and track performance over time.”
The class system is where returning REDSEC players will feel the most disruption. EA states that “Hazmat Breacher and Drone Operator training paths have been removed from Assault and Recon, respectively,” with parts folded into the surviving paths. Recon pairs a Motion Sensor with a Handheld Jammer, and its level-three training lets that jammer “disrupt Redeploy Points and Mobile Redeploys within its radius” — a direct counter to the redeploy economy Rapid Royale is built around. Other changelog numbers that changed:
- Armor Plate application is “20% faster by default in Battle Royale and Rapid Royale, with an additional 12% increase when using the Quick Plating Engineer Perk.”
- Ammunition capacity “for Sniper Rifles and DMRs has been reduced from 70 to 60 rounds.”
- Weapon-versus-armor breakpoints moved by family: 5.56x45mm and 5.45x39mm rifles and LMGs need one more bullet to kill past 46 m, 9mm and 10mm SMGs between 9 m and 85 m, and 7.62mm DMRs past 21 m.
EA’s dev note on that last group says the intent was to stop weapons “overstepping their intended weapon archetypes,” and that the studio chose family-wide changes over “heavy-handed, targeted nerfs.”
The anti-air pass: the numbers that moved
EA’s dev note is blunt about the problem it set out to fix: “The team felt that anti-air cannons were not effective enough at punishing aggressive, mid-to-long-range fly-bys from aircraft.” The fix raises projectile velocity, cuts dispersion and curbs the Scout Helicopter’s power against infantry.
| System | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile Anti-Air turret rotation | base | +50% base rotation speed |
| Mobile Anti-Air maximum range | slightly less | approximately 800 m |
| 35mm High Velocity — damage vs. helicopters | 26 | 45 |
| 35mm High Velocity — damage vs. jets | 32.5 | 62.5 |
| 35mm High Velocity — projectile velocity | 1,175 m/s | 1,250 m/s |
| 35mm High Velocity — convergence distance | 300 m | 90 m |
| 35mm High Velocity — heat per shot | 3.6% | 13% |
| Multi-Purpose AA Shell — projectile velocity | 850 m/s | 1,175 m/s |
| Anti-Armor AA Shell — rate of fire | 240 rpm | 480 rpm |
| Anti-Armor AA Shell — magazine / reload | 8 rounds / 2.4 s | 4 rounds / 1.2 s |
| GDF-009 Cannon — rate of fire | 720 rpm | 1,100 rpm |
| RWS .50 Cal HMG — rate of fire / projectile lifetime | 400 rpm / 1.5 s | 450 rpm / 4 s |
| 70mm FFAR Light Rocket — splash damage | baseline | 30% reduction |
| Rocket pod resupply cooldown | 28 s | 38 s |
| Light Rockets needed vs. Scout Helicopter | 4 hits | 7 hits |
| MBT and IFV — critical to full health | 6.66 s / 7 s | 8 s (both) |
The air side of the patch reads as a list of costs. EA cut 70mm FFAR splash damage by 30% specifically to prevent one-hit kills on infantry “at the most common engagement distances,” and lengthened “the rocket pod resupply cooldown from 28 to 38 seconds” so pilots make fewer, more deliberate runs. Light Rockets now need 7 hits against Scout Helicopters (up from 4), 9 against Attack Helicopters (up from 5) and 15 against Transport Helicopters (up from 11). Heavy Rotary Machine Gun rounds penetrating helicopter glass deal 0.3x damage to soldiers, down from 0.8x.
Tanks were touched as well: firing an MBT or IFV weapon resets the passive regeneration delay, reapplying the 12-second wait, and critical-to-full regeneration takes 8 seconds for both, up from 6.66 and 7. Rear hits within 86–94 degrees now deal 2.5x damage.
One change did not ship. EA wanted low-altitude aircraft flying “below radar” to be more vulnerable to infantry lock-on missiles, but the note says Battlefield Labs testing made clear that “this change needed some more iterations before it was ready for prime time.” Treat it as open, not done.
Hotfix 1.000.035: audio fixed, Airstrikes still off
Season 5 arrived on October 13 as update 1.000.034, and MP1ST describes the follow-up as an emergency hotfix “on all platforms on October 15” — a small download aimed at a game-breaking issue rather than a general cleanup.
What it fixed, quoting the developers: “We have deployed a hotfix to resolve an issue that could cause audio to cut out until the game is restarted.” What is still off, from the same report: Airstrikes in Rapid Royale. The quoted statement is that the studio is “aware of Airstrikes in Rapid Royale not functioning properly and have temporarily disabled them,” with an update promised once they are re-enabled — notably after the Season 5 notes had raised how often Airstrikes appear as Battle Royale loot. MP1ST also lists the Mk 24 underbarrel attachment as disabled, says Battle Royale Duos matchmaking is resolved with a possible re-queue needed, and reports backend changes deployed before Season 5 “to reduce excessive AI-filled matches,” with matchmaking “reported to have stabilized, but remains under monitoring.” No timeline was given for the remaining items.
Battle Pass, BF Pro and the free trial
The Season 5 Battle Pass carries “six instant unlocks, four themed paths, more than 100 tiers of rewards.” Battlefield Pro adds six exclusive instant unlocks, 25 Tier Skips, a 15% XP boost, a limited-time bonus path, new vehicle-radio music, persistent Portal server hosting and 100-player servers in Portal. If you are weighing that premium layer this late in the season, the Battle Pass economics comparison across WoW, FFXIV and Destiny 2 is the right frame for how these tiers price out.
Free entry is time-boxed. EA states that “from October 15-19, Battlefield 6 will be free to play for a limited time on PlayStation and Steam” — those platforms specifically, not the full console set — with every available map and mode open, so Xbox players sit this window out. Gauntlet is the casualty: the roadmap says “with the launch of Season 5, Gauntlet will leave Battlefield 6,” departing on October 13.
What comes after launch: Casino Heist, Frozen Aces and the esports ladder
Launch was only the opening act. Casino Heist lands November 10 and “moves inside the European Casino, a new infantry-focused battleground where close-quarters combat takes center stage” — the extra map the roadmap promised. Frozen Aces follows on December 8 with Operation High Roller “along with several highly requested features, including Platoons and Server Browser,” plus Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, “both of which have been updated based on community feedback,” new weapons, gear and the B-81 Cavalry.
Competition expands on the same schedule: REDSEC gets the Open Series, and “the Elite Series arrives later this season with massive cash prizes up for grabs.” No prize figure appears in the source, so none belongs here. That is a nine-week season carrying two content drops, the pattern examined in our breakdown of 6-, 8- and 12-week season math.
What to re-test first
- Scout Helicopter pilots. Splash damage, resupply time and the Light Rockets needed to bring you down all moved against you, and mobile anti-air now reaches roughly 800 m with a 50% faster turret.
- REDSEC class builds. With Hazmat Breacher gone from Assault and Drone Operator gone from Recon, any loadout leaning on those paths needs re-reading, and the Recon jammer’s ability to disrupt Redeploy Points changes redeploy-heavy matches.
- DMR and sniper loadouts in REDSEC. The 70-to-60-round cut is a flat reduction in what you carry into a long match.
- Portal creators. The update added the EF88, BROD 3, VSSM, Interdictor and Hadal NV-08 knife, Mount Whitney as a Custom Map, DryLake and Paradise for Verified Portal Modes, and new SDK functions — while deprecating
AllPlayers,AllVehicles,AllCapturePointsandAllObjectsOfTypein favour ofGetAllequivalents. The same patch reworked enemy footstep priority, covered in our competitive FPS audio guide.
