Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.56 Adds Beastmaster Job, Final Main Story Quests Before Evercold Expansion

Square Enix deployed Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.56 on September 8, 2026, delivering the final main story quests before the Evercold expansion and introducing the long-awaited Beastmaster Limited Job. The update arrives over a month after the Berlin FanFest event and requires 1.2 GB of additional storage space.

Main Story Quests: The Road to Evercold

Patch 7.56 adds four main scenario quests that set the stage for Evercold, scheduled for release in January 2027. Players can begin the questline by speaking to Tataru at The Rising Stones in Mor Dhona (X:6.0, Y:6.1) to accept “A Winter’s Dream.” This quest requires a Disciple of War or Magic at level 100 and prior completion of the quest “Trail to the Heavens.” No new dungeons or trials accompany these story quests, making them the last narrative content players can undertake until the expansion launches.

Beastmaster Limited Job

The Beastmaster job is now available as a Limited Job. Players can start the questline—“Strangers in the Wood”—by speaking to the Excited Adventurer NPC in New Gridania (X:11.8, Y:13.6). The quest requires a Disciple of War or Magic at level 50 and prior completion of “The Ultimate Weapon.”

Several restrictions apply. Beastmaster requires the Dawntrail expansion registered to the player’s account, excluding free trial players. As a Limited Job, Beastmaster cannot use Duty Roulette and is restricted from certain activities available to standard jobs. The patch includes ten Beastmaster job quests in total.

Switch 2 Port Exits Beta

Final Fantasy XIV’s Nintendo Switch 2 port has officially exited its beta phase with this patch. Switch 2 players must now maintain a recurring monthly subscription to continue playing. Notably, the Switch 2 subscription is billed separately from the standard monthly fee that covers PC, PlayStation, and Xbox clients simultaneously. Existing players who already subscribe on another platform can add a Switch 2 subscription at a 50% discount.

Additional Content

New Game+ has received new chapters corresponding to the Patch 7.56 story content. A Gold Saucer mini-game called Keybound Brawler is scheduled to launch on October 28. Square Enix plans to reveal more Evercold details, including a potential release date, at Tokyo FanFest during Halloween weekend.
