PlaySide Studios is developing and publishing Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, an upcoming real-time strategy title for Windows based on the Game of Thrones television series. The game was officially announced on June 6, 2025, during the Summer Game Fest event.
Development & Release
Directed by Ryan McMahon, the project was initially scheduled for a 2026 launch window. The release has since been delayed to early 2027. PlaySide Studios has confirmed that a formal gameplay reveal is scheduled to take place on August 25, 2026, during the Gamescom event. The title is currently being developed exclusively for the Windows platform.
Gameplay & Factions
As a real-time strategy experience, War for Westeros allows players to command armies from four distinct factions: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King. An in-game group or nation players can align with or fight against, with its own goals and reputation system. features hero characters directly drawn from the television series, including Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen.
Players will manage varied unit types during engagements, including standard infantry, dragons, and giants. The game supports both single-player and multiplayer formats. Gameplay mechanics and environmental elements are tailored to align with the specific abilities and thematic designs of the different playable armies.
Modes & Structure
The single-player content includes a structured campaign mode titled “War for Westeros” alongside a standalone skirmish mode.
