The Nocturnal Arms of the Silver Pool define Melinoe’s moment-to-moment combat flow in Hades II. Unlike the Stygian weapons of the first game, each arm in Melinoe’s arsenal features distinct physical and magical channeling profiles, splitting into baseline aspects and specialized mythological forms awakened via Nightmare reagents.
What this covers: Detailed mechanical breakdown of five of the six Nocturnal Arms, aspect tier rankings, Daedalus Hammer synergies, and attack recovery profiles. Why it matters: Weapon aspects alter Omega casting speeds, attack hitbox widths, and Magick consumption rates, directly determining boss survivability. Who should pick this: Shadow-casting players debating where to invest rare Nightmare essences and weapon upgrade materials.
Nocturnal Arms Tier Matrix
Every weapon aspect modifies the baseline weapon profile with passive stat increases or entirely reworked Omega skills. The table below ranks aspects based on clear speed, safety in high-Fear runs, and flexibility with RNG boon offerings.
| Weapon | Aspect Name | Tier | Core Mechanical Alteration | Ideal Playstyle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Witch’s Staff (Descura) | Aspect of Momus | S | Omega Moves re-fire in place up to 3 times until you use them again (delay 4s at Rank 1, 2s at Rank 5) | Safe ranged kiting with Poseidon / Zeus |
| Sister Blades (Lim & Oros) | Aspect of Pan | S | Cast seeks out all thrown Special daggers directly into the circle | Burst-damage assassin shotgunning |
| Moonstone Axe (Zorephet) | Aspect of Charon | A | Hit your Cast with an Omega Special and it erupts as a Cleave-Cast with +10% to +30% size and damage by rank | Heavy crowd-control zone clearance |
| Umbral Flames (Ygnium) | Aspect of Moros | B | Attacks linger as ghostly orbs that detonate when hit by Specials | Tactical mine placement and kiting |
| Argent Skull (Revaal) | Aspect of Medea | A | Attacks stay within reach, exploding after Specials land or after 3 seconds (+30% to +90% damage by rank) | High-risk point-blank melee burst |
| Sister Blades (Lim & Oros) | Aspect of Melinoe | A | Flat Backstab Damage bonus on Attacks and Specials from behind, scaling to +100% at Rank 5 | Classic backstab fishing with Aphrodite |
Six arms now hang at the Silver Pool. The v1.0 release added a sixth Nocturnal Arm, the Black Coat (“Xinth”), unlocked after crafting Revaal — it guards and retaliates with mighty Attacks while its seeking Specials cut off escapes, and it carries four aspects of its own: Melinoë, Selene, Nyx, and the hidden Aspect of Shiva. The matrix above ranks five of the six; every arm now carries four aspects, 24 in all.
Unlocking and Upgrading Every Aspect
Aspects are gated behind progression rather than gold. Melinoe must first cast the Aspects of Night and Darkness Incantation at the Crossroads Cauldron, which switches on the aspect menus at the Silver Pool; the recipe costs 1 Nightshade and 5 Bronze. Nightshade seeds hide in Erebus soil patches and need the Silver Spade to dig up, while Bronze can only be mined on the Surface — an area that stays sealed behind two earlier Incantations. Once the ritual is done, every Nocturnal Arm carries three usable aspects (the default Aspect of Melinoe plus two craftable ones) and one hidden fourth.
Ranks run from Rank 1 to Rank 5, and upgrading only moves that aspect’s own numbers: the repeat delay on Momus’s Omega Moves, the size and damage of Charon’s Cleave-Cast, the backstab scaling on Melinoe’s Sister Blades. Six arms times four aspects gives the 24 aspects currently in the game.
Nightmares pay for most of it. Aspects of Melinoe are ranked with ordinary crafting reagents, but every other aspect consumes Nightmares, earned from Testaments of Night and specific Fated List prophecies, or bought from the Wretched Broker at 1,200 Bones each. Hidden aspects are the most expensive to rank.
The hidden route is separate. Fully rank up any single aspect on a weapon, then find that weapon’s associated member of the Unseen during a run or at the Crossroads and wait for the “waking phrase”. The pairs are Circe with the Witch’s Staff, Artemis with the Sister Blades, Moros with the Umbral Flames, Charon with the Moonstone Axe, Medea with the Argent Skull, and Selene with the Black Coat. Melinoe does not need to be holding the weapon when the phrase is spoken; carrying the line back to the Silver Pool reveals the hidden aspect, which is then unlocked with rare reagents and ranked up with Nightmares.

Deep Dive: Sister Blades (Aspect of Pan)
The Sister Blades are the undisputed kings of single-target boss shredding when utilizing the Aspect of Pan. By default, Melinoe’s Special tosses a fan of light daggers in a forward arc. With Pan active, channeling an Omega Cast drops a binding circle; whenever you throw your Special, every single projectile alters its flight path mid-air and converges directly upon the center of the Cast.
- The Shotgun Effect: Rather than spreading wide, all 5 to 9 daggers strike a single boss hitbox simultaneously.
- Boon Synergy: Slotting Poseidon’s Wave Flourish or Aphrodite’s Flutter Flourish on Special turns each dagger into an independent damage calculation, dealing upwards of 2,000 burst damage per volley.
- Hammer Pairing: Securing Spiral Knives or Hook Knives from the Daedalus Hammer doubles the projectile count, creating an inescapable execution zone.
Heavy Stagger: Moonstone Axe (Aspect of Charon)
For players struggling with incoming chip damage, the Moonstone Axe offers unparalleled hitstun and hyper-armor frames. The Aspect of Charon synergizes heavily with wide-area magic:
- When you cast an Omega Cast, the circle expands outward.
- Striking that Cast with an Omega Special erupts it as a Cleave-Cast, with the blast’s size and damage growing from +10% at Rank 1 to +30% at Rank 5.
- Pair this with Apollo’s size multipliers (Nova Flourish) to engulf more than half the arena in a continuous screen-wide detonation zone.
The Witch’s Staff: Ranged Precision
The Witch’s Staff is the most forgiving starter weapon, offering safe spacing against bosses like Scylla and the Sirens. Aspect of Momus makes every Omega Move re-fire in the same spot up to 3 times until you use that move again, with the delay between repeats tightening from 4 seconds at Rank 1 to 2 seconds at Rank 5. Channel an Omega Move, step out of the swing lane, and the attack keeps firing in place while you reposition.
The Full Aspect Roster: Every Effect by Arm
Alongside the six aspects in the matrix, here is the complete set of 24, grouped by arm.
Witch’s Staff (Descura)
- Aspect of Melinoe — raises maximum Magick and the Power of the Special and Omega Special, from 0 at Rank 1 to 40 at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Circe — every Cast or Omega Cast also fires from Melinoe’s familiar and forms a Psychic Leash, a pink beam that deals 10 damage every 0.2 seconds at Rank 1 and 30 at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Anubis (hidden) — the staff becomes the Ankh Scepter: Attacks create a damaging field, Specials pull enemies in, every kill raises a Lone Shade, and Omega Moves gain +10% speed and damage at Rank 1, rising to +30% at Rank 5.
Sister Blades (Lim and Oros)
- Aspect of Melinoe — flat Backstab Damage on Attacks and Specials from behind, already covered above.
- Aspect of Artemis — channeling the Omega Attack opens a chance to Parry incoming damage (15-second cooldown), followed by a Riposte that makes Melinoe Impervious for 1 second and gives her next 9 strikes +50% Critical chance; Omega Attack speed rises from +20% at Rank 1 to +60% at Rank 5.
- Aspect of the Morrigan (hidden) — the blades become the Crow Cutters, with a wide slicing Attack that hits three times and slower Specials that hit repeatedly in flight. Landing an Attack, a Special and an Omega Move on one enemy triggers the Blood Triad for 333 damage at Rank 1 and 777 at Rank 5.
Umbral Flames (Ygnium)
- Aspect of Melinoe — Attacks and Specials gain a Critical Damage chance that climbs from 0% at Rank 1 to 10% at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Eos — the Omega Attack throws a Daybreaker, a slow seeking cloud that damages an area every 2 seconds and copies your Specials, with blast damage rising from 100 to 150 by Rank 5.
- Aspect of Supay (hidden) — the Devil Sparks moveset fires Attack and Special automatically and improves both Omega moves, and the Rush Boon’s damage is enhanced by 10% at Rank 1 up to 30% at Rank 5.
Moonstone Axe (Zorephet)
- Aspect of Melinoe — raises the Attack’s Power and maximum health, from 0 at Rank 1 to 35 at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Thanatos — a faster Attack that grants a stack of Mortality per hit (lost when you take damage); each stack adds +2% Critical chance for Omega Moves, capping at +20%, and Attack speed rises from +20% to +40% across ranks.
- Aspect of Nergal (hidden) — the Rock Lion Mace turns the Attack into an overhead slam with a large circle while the Omega Special strikes the same area several times; enough hits trigger Berserk for 8 seconds at +65% Attack and Special speed plus health regeneration per enemy hit, needing 21 hits at Rank 1 down to 9 at Rank 5.
Argent Skull (Revaal)
- Aspect of Melinoe — Attacks gain more Power for every Shell fired and not yet retrieved, from 0 per spent Shell at Rank 1 to 12 at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Persephone — the Omega Special is Sprouted, extending Olympian damage effects by up to 2 seconds, and Boons gain bonus levels (up to 2 at Rank 1, up to 6 at Rank 5).
- Aspect of Hel (hidden) — the Frost Main moveset burst-fires Attacks without spending Shells and makes Specials seek enemies; the Omega Special grants Valkyrie for 3 seconds, firing the Attack constantly at +5% speed at Rank 1 and +25% at Rank 5 while locking out other Omega Moves.
Black Coat (Xinth): The 1.0 Arm in Detail
Xinth is the six-armed addition that arrived with the v1.0 launch, and it is the only Nocturnal Arm whose default posture is defensive. Nyx is named as its former wielder, and the fandom weapon table describes it as a guard-and-retaliate tool: “Guard and retaliate with mighty Attacks, ensuring none escape with seeking Specials.” Its four aspects are:
- Aspect of Melinoe — Attacks, Sprint and move speed become faster, from 0% at Rank 1 to 20% at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Selene — each run starts with a unique Hex, Sky Fall, which fires several beams of moonlight near Melinoe and applies Shine (afflicted foes take 50% more Omega Move damage for 8 seconds); Sky Fall is ready after 100 Magick spent at Rank 1, dropping to 60 by Rank 5.
- Aspect of Nyx — Sprint briefly to trigger Omega Boost, dealing 250 damage in an area and granting Nightspawn for 5 seconds; while active, Attack and Special split in two at 15% of normal damage at Rank 1 up to 75% at Rank 5.
- Aspect of Shiva (hidden) — the Purifying Grace moveset launches Melinoe forward on Omega Attack and thins the Special into fewer, harder-hitting shots; absorbing Omega Special explosions builds Destructive stacks worth +50% Omega Attack damage each, up to 2 stacks at Rank 1 and 6 at Rank 5.
Which Aspects to Prioritise
Tier placements are editorial, so here are the picks. GamesRadar’s staff choice is the Aspect of Circe, for Cast-stacking builds, with the hidden Anubis as the area-damage alternative. For the Blades it is the hidden Morrigan once unlocked, with Melinoe as the interim; for the Flames, Supay, because auto-firing Attacks let you stay mobile and funnel attention into Omega Moves. The Axe pick is Thanatos — the weapon’s core problem is speed — with Nergal as the higher-investment option; the Skull pick is Persephone, whose bonus Boon levels scale the whole build; and the Coat pick is Nyx, whose Omega Boost and extra Nightspawn strikes read like a free Hephaestus Boon.
