Season 5: Rage of the Frostborn went live on Steam on October 1, 2026, at 11 AM CDT — 16:00 UTC — and it is the first season under Eleventh Hour Games’ new game director, Mike Weicker. The launch did not go cleanly. In a message posted to the official forums the same evening, Weicker wrote that “server issues made the game difficult to play, or completely unplayable, for many of you at launch. That is our failure, and we take responsibility for it.” He also confirmed the studio would not restart the season’s First Blood race, because a restart “would require taking the game offline and performing an experimental mass data migration.”

What this covers: the Rage of Morditas seasonal mechanic, the boss chain that leads to Pinnacle Morditas, the two item-factionfaction. An in-game group or nation players can align with or fight against, with its own goals and reputation system. reworks, the three new class skills, and how the season’s patches have changed the picture since day one. Why it matters: the season’s loot loop is now a set of decisions — you spend encounter currency to reshape a reward panel — and the new Pinnacle boss sits behind a 400 Corruption gate. Who should care: returning players picking a faction and a character, and anyone deciding whether the Frostborn loop justifies a fresh start two weeks into the season.

What Season 5 actually ships

Eleventh Hour Games’ official season page splits the update into a handful of parts: the Rage of Morditas seasonal mechanic, a new endgame boss, three new mastery skills, item-faction improvements, and “a combined total of 18 new Unique and Set Items.” The launch post adds the framing for day one: once the patch installs, players can “engage in the Rage of Morditas seasonal mechanic, explore Faction updates, use three new skills, and more.”

The official page calls the new loot “a combined total of 18 new Unique and Set Items” and notes “a few uber rare Uniques” among them. Community breakdowns read that as 16 new Uniques plus a two-piece Set, and treat the separate number 18 as referring to new item subtypes tied to the seasonal encounter — a distinction worth knowing before you compare item lists elsewhere.

Inside the Rage of Morditas loop

The mechanic begins with a Blood Crystal. According to EHG’s Hype Week deep dive, you are notified on entering an area with one — “Anger is building up in the air” — and the crystal is marked on your mini-map as a blood ice shardshard. A separate copy of a game world running on its own server; players on one shard don't share the world with another.. Touching it invokes a shade of Morditas and starts a timer; the encounter’s progress is shown on a rage bar “with visual indicators of each threshold.”

Phase one is a kill rush. Every enemy you slay feeds the demigod and builds Bloodrage Charges, which are later spent on rewards. Morditas also grants temporary Bloodrage buffs; EHG named four in its preview. Revitalizing Rage gives a chance to find a blood potion that briefly boosts movement speed, Freezing Rage creates projectiles with a high freeze rate, Coalescing Rage spawns blood orbs that detonate when an enemy touches them, and Reptilian Bloodrage makes lizards appear nearby every few seconds.

When the timer ends, the encounter moves to a second phase inside a formation of blood ice: the enemies you killed in phase one revive for a final fight. Clear that gauntlet and a Blood-Filled Crystal opens the reward panel. Community guides place the charge thresholds at 20, 50, 90, 140 and 200 kills, with each charge also rolling one of a pool of temporary buffs; EHG’s own post describes the on-screen thresholds without listing the numbers.

The reward panel: charges, rituals, and two new kinds of Forging Potential

The reward panel is where the season’s decisions live. EHG describes five slots — four equipment, and a fifth that “can have keys, crafting materials, bags of resources, and more.” Each Bloodrage Charge can claim an item, or pay for one of two rituals that reshape what comes next:

ActionWhat it doesWhen to use it
ClaimTakes the selected reward and rolls a fresh panelThe item is already good enough
Frozen RitualSacrifices a slot, then re-rolls the rest as that item type with similar affixesThe base type is right but the roll is not
Bloody RitualPurges a slot and excludes that item type from later re-rollsYou want to remove a type from the pool

The trade-off is built in: “the more Rituals you use before picking an item, the better the rewards are likely to be,” EHG writes, because each ritual removes an option. Charges do not carry between encounters, but an untouched reward panel persists — so a promising selection can wait for your next run.

Rewards also carry one of two new Forging Potential types. Ice Forging Potential “has a chance to be preserved whenever it is used in crafting,” while Blood Forging Potential “raises the critical success chance when crafting.” Items produced by a Frozen Ritual get Ice, and items produced by a Bloody Ritual get Blood. That is the same crafting system that governs every other item, so if you have not internalised how base Forging Potential is spent, Last Epoch Crafting: Forging Potential and Despair Seals is the place to start.

From a Blood Crystal to Pinnacle Morditas

Clearing encounters in the Monolith also advances a boss route. EHG describes a “special 3-part chain” of Woven Echoes that ends with a chance to fight Morditas, tracked in the new Nexus progression window. An Anger gauge rises as you kill during encounters and “will affect the difficulty of all three echoes of the chain and grant you more rewards at the end”; if the chain becomes too difficult, you can “appease Morditas” to bring Anger down.

Beating Morditas drops the Demigod’s Ascendance Woven Echo, which unlocks the Pinnacle encounter — Morditas as the God of Bloodshed. That Echo “requires 400 Corruption to place in your Echo Web, and it does not scale difficulty with Corruption,” and EHG positions it as a bridge “towards Uber Aberroth.” For anyone still learning how Corruption gates work, Last Epoch Corruption Bands: Loot Rarity at 120 and 300 covers the ladder.

Patch 1.5.1 later extended Pinnacle Morditas access to Legacy and Offline characters, according to the official notes.

What the faction reworks change for gear

Both item factions were rebuilt, and the official season page frames the goal as making “finding, buying, and farming the items you need faster and easier.”

For the Circle of Fortune, Prophecy rewards “can now be directly selected and optionally modified with lenses,” which makes target-farming more deterministic, and prophecy objectives are broader so they can be completed in more kinds of content. For the Merchant’s Guild, the official notes list Bazaar pricing suggestions, improved filters, opt-in automatic price lowering, and “the removal of rank requirements for purchasing new item types.” Patch 1.5.2 then dropped the minimum automatic price reduction to 1 gold, down from 500 gold — a small change that shows how quickly the team has been tuning the season’s economy.

The three new skills, and what the season asks of a build

Each new skill belongs to a single mastery. EHG describes Radiant Lance as a Paladin skill that “imbues your shield with light” and concentrates it into a beam, with damage conversions available; Summon Tide Elemental as a permanent Shaman minion that wields Cold spells, also with conversions; and Dreamslash as a Bladedancer slash “that can be combined with your Shadows.” Community guides add the unlock costs, which are the practical difference between a season-start option and a late commitment.

SkillMasteryPassive points to unlock (community guides)
DreamslashBladedancer (Rogue)10
Radiant LancePaladin (Sentinel)15
Summon Tide ElementalShaman (Primalist)30

Build viability this season follows the mechanic’s shape rather than a tier list. Phase one rewards clear speed and area damage, because charges are gated behind kill counts. Phase two rewards a defensive floor, because every kill from phase one returns at once. The Pinnacle route rewards stable Monolith progression to 400 Corruption, and it stops scaling there — so a character that can reach the gate does not need to push beyond it to fight the boss. The First Blood race, meanwhile, is solo-only: EHG’s rules require a Seasonal Online character played Solo Account Found or Solo Character Found. There is no official tier list for the season, and roughly two weeks of launch data is a thin basis for one.

The season’s patch history, two weeks in

The launch-week friction is documented in the official patch feed, which shows a steady stream of fixes since October 1:

BuildDateHeadline fix
1.5Oct 1, 2026The season itself: mechanic, boss, skills, faction rework
1.5.0.1Oct 2, 2026Turkish-locale login failure; a Rage of Morditas rewards menu that could vanish before you picked
1.5.1Oct 2, 2026Pinnacle Morditas opened to Legacy and Offline characters
1.5.1.1Oct 3, 2026Loading freezes in Caves, Tombs and Cemeteries; gauntlets that spawned too few monsters
1.5.1.2Oct 5, 2026Removed Yrun from Monoliths and the Gauntlet of Strife
1.5.2Oct 7, 2026Revitalizing Rage no longer applied to ward-per-missing-health characters
1.5.2.1Oct 9, 2026Summon Tide Elemental visuals hiding enemy attack indicators; Dreamslash fixes

The same feed shows the three named “uber rare” Uniques — Eternal Font, Death Dance and Gift of the Eidolon — were gated to zones of level 80 or higher in 1.5.1.1. The First Blood window opened with the season and runs two weeks, so it closes around mid-October, roughly as the patch cadence settles. Every player who logged into Season 5 during those two weeks earns the in-game title Blood Seeker; the first solo kill of Pinnacle Morditas with each of the five classes, in Normal and in Hardcore, takes an Enraged Legend Supporter Pack.
