Undecember does not have Awakening classes. It does not have classes at all. The store page is blunt about the design: “There are no defined classes in UNDECEMBER,” it says, and “Builds are divided into Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence types, but there are no gear or combination restrictions.”

So the choice players are actually making when they search for an Awakening class is a two-part commitment wearing one name. First you pick an attribute archetype — the stat you pour points into and the weapon that archetype implies. Then, much later, you pick Rune Awakening options, which are the closest thing the game has to a class-flavoured specialisation. The interesting part is that neither choice is a free respec, and neither is the Zodiac Specialization that sits on top of both.

This guide describes the global English client served through LINE Games’ ud.floor.line.games/guide.floor.line.games portals. The Korean service runs on its own patch cadence and its own notes, so numbers and season names here are the global ones.

What this covers: how Undecember’s three attribute archetypes, Rune Awakening options and Zodiac Specializations decide what an endgame build can hold — and where the rune-linking rules foreclose the rest. Why it matters: the game sells unlimited combination, but colour, tags and slot counts quietly cap what any one Skill Rune can carry, so the “class” you commit to is really a set of constraints you agree to live with. Who should care: players at the point where a build stops being a pile of runes and starts being a plan — roughly level 60 onward, and everyone who has ever wondered why two players using the same Skill Rune deal different damage.

The three “classes” are attributes, not kits

Undecember hands you stat points on every level and lets you spend them into Strength, Dexterity or Intelligence. Gameplay.tips’ Zodiac guide puts stat income at five points per level, and describes what each one buys at the margin:

AttributeWhat its points buyArchetype it maps toThe community’s read on it
StrengthHP and Armor%melee / warriorstrong at packs of weaker monsters, weaker at single-target crit damage
DexterityHit Rate and Dodge Rate%ranged / archerbest single-target crits, but thin on HP and therefore squishy
IntelligenceMana and Barrier%caster / summonerthe most flexible archetype, at the cost of low defence

The last column is Odealo’s read from its build overview: Strength as close-quarters and pack-focused, Dexterity as ranged with “large crits and outstanding Single-Target DPS,” Intelligence as the most flexible, able to run a generalist elemental caster or a focused summoner.

Note what the first two columns do not say. None of the three gives you a skill list. Odealo is explicit that “any Skill Rune can be used on any Character,” and the store page repeats the freedom: “Players are free to cast magic with a sword or summon minions with a bow.” Your attribute decides your gear requirements and your defensive floor, not your abilities.

That matters because the attribute is the least reversible of the three decisions. It sets the stat requirements your gear and higher-level runes demand, and Odealo notes the Zodiac’s attribute nodes are what let you equip increasingly powerful equipment. A Dexterity stack that suddenly wants a Strength-gated two-hander does not keep its layout for free.

What Awakening actually is

Rune Awakening is a rune-growth feature, not a class branch. The official guide is precise: “Reaching Level 78 unlocks the Rune Awakening feature,” and it “can add unique additional options to Lv. 30 Legendary Skill Runes.” You perform it at Mystic Pauline in town.

The mechanics that make it a commitment:

  • One option, from three families. “Only one Awakening Option can be imbued between Source/Origin/Verity.” You are choosing a direction, not stacking them.
  • Same option rerolls, different option replaces. “If the Awakening Option is different than the existing Awakening Option, the option is replaced. If the Awakening Option is the same as the existing Awakening Option, it rerolls the option values.”
  • The option does not survive a transfer. The official Transferring page is explicit: “Awakened Runes can be registered as a material Rune, but the Awakened option is not transferred in the process.”
  • It is balance-patch sensitive. When the January 15, 2026 update revamped Skill and Link Runes, it stated that “the Awakening balance of some runes will be adjusted. After the update, the Awakening state of the affected runes will be reverted to the normal state, and an [Exclusive] Engraving Stone will be granted.”

There is a version wrinkle worth knowing before you plan around the guide’s wording. The Awakening page says “Lv. 30 Legendary Skill Runes,” and that page carries a 2023 update date. Since then the ceiling moved: the Director’s Letter for the 2026 season The Farside introduces the Spica Essence, which “can only be used on Runes Lv. 31 or above, and it makes it possible to grow a Rune’s level up to Lv. 45 or higher” — with a catch, since “the Rune’s level may also drop by one stage depending on the outcome.” The Jan. 15 update’s balance tables already compare runes at “Lv. 45.” So treat the “Lv. 30 Legendary” line as the feature’s original gate, not the current endgame ceiling.

The linking rules are the real class restriction

Here is where Undecember’s promised freedom actually gets bounded, and where a build’s ceiling is set before any damage formula runs. Skill Runes are hexagonal, and Link Runes attach to their exposed sides — but only under conditions.

ConstraintThe ruleWhat it forecloses
Link slot colourLink Runes carry colours that match specific edges of a Skill Rune’s border; Odealo notes “Only Runes with matching colours can be linked together”a Skill Rune that rolls the wrong colours cannot take the Link Runes you wanted; you reroll it or you change plan
Tag eligibilitythe Jan. 15 update’s Transcendent Harmony “Can be linked with Skills that are any one of Attack, Spell” and “Cannot be linked with Skills that are Totem, Minion, Sentry, Toggle, Shout, Attack Enhance, Defense Enhance, Movement, Trap”support runes are not universal; a summoner and a caster do not share the same support pool
Slot countHexa Rune Essence “Adds Rune Slots to a Skill Rune to change into 6 slots”; the official Transferring page requires a material and target Skill Rune to share “the same number of maximum slots”, which is the game’s way of saying maximum varies by runea six-link Skill Rune is a project; rune identity includes how many supports it can physically hold
White slotsRune Candor Essence “Changes the color of 1 Link Slot into White by chance. Link Rune of all colors can be linked in a White Slot, and the equipped Link Rune’s effect increases by 1 level”a white slot is the escape hatch that lets a mismatched Link Rune count — and it raises that rune’s effective level
Duplicates“You cannot equip duplicate Skill Runes into the Rune Cast. You can equip duplicate Link Runes into the Rune Cast, but they cannot be registered to the same Skill Rune”you cannot solve a problem by equipping the same skill twice, and you cannot stack the same support twice on one skill
Rune Cast sizethe board “can be expanded by 7 slots to the right/left, for a total of 14 slots”, with locked slots opened by Traum’s Crystal and Goldhow many Skill Runes you can support at once is a paid, permanent purchase — “expanded slots cannot be reverted”

The colour mechanic has a second edge that Odealo flags: “multiple Skill Runes can be connected to the same Link Rune.” That is the system’s real leverage. One well-coloured Link Rune can serve two or three Skill Runes at once, which is how endgame builds fit more support than their slot count suggests. It is also why the official Rune Cast page says the displayed DPS already accounts for Link Rune effects — the board is the calculation, not the individual rune.

On top of colours, the enchant economy decides which constraints you can edit and which you cannot. Rune Birth Essence “Re-imbues the number of linked slots by chance,” Rune Link Essence “Changes a linked slot’s location by chance,” and Rune Color Essence “Changes a linked slot’s color by chance.” Trigger Rune geometry is a separate problem: a Trigger Rune Change Essence “Randomly reassigns the direction of a Trigger Rune’s Skill Rune Link.” In other words, you can buy your way toward a shape, but every one of those operations is a roll, and the shape a Skill Rune lands in is what your build inherits.

Zodiac Specialization is the actual lock

If you want the single decision that behaves most like a class pick, it is Zodiac Specialization — and it is deliberately exclusive. The official Zodiac Traits page states it flatly: “only 1 type of Specialization can be selected at once.” VHPG’s summary of the same system repeats the point, so it is not a translation artefact.

The rest of the Zodiac’s structure explains why that exclusivity bites:

  • Trait Points activate the Zodiac, at “1 point every time you level up, starting from level 10,” with more from Stardust of Advancement on clearing each Act from Act 2, and from Stardust of Evolution via Chaos Dungeon sub quests.
  • Traits are “divided into Types and Levels,” and “A certain amount of Zodiac Trait Points must have been used in order to invest into Lv. II and beyond.”
  • Each type runs from a starting ‘Moon’ node through ‘Star’ and ‘Sun’ to a ‘Cosmos’ capstone, and “You must first invest into one of the starting nodes in order to continue to other connected nodes.”
  • You can invest in traits of different types at the same level — but the Specialization itself stays single-occupancy.

The reset economics make the choice real without making it permanent. Gameplay.tips documents the two reset currencies (Gold, whose cost scales with points used, or Stardust of Oblivion, which gives six hours of free resets) and notes “Unlimited resets are available without any cost until the completion of Episode 2.” That is a strong on-ramp: early respecs are free and unlimited, exactly when experimentation matters most. After Episode 2, the class decision gets a price tag attached.

This is where “how the choice forecloses later options” stops being abstract. Picking an attribute biases your stat requirements and your defensive profile. Picking a Specialization type spends the trait points that the next Specialization tier needed you to spend. Picking a Rune Awakening option commits one of Source/Origin/Verity to that rune and evaporates if you transfer it. None of the three individually ends the build; together they narrow the surface.

For a shared vocabulary on the stats these systems feed, the site’s own ARPG glossary of DPS and EHP terms is the fastest primer on what a Zodiac node or Link Rune is actually moving.

Routing the endgame build

Once the constraints are understood, the routing order is simple.

1. Lock the attribute by weapon, not by fantasy. Because runes are not archetype-locked, it is tempting to pick the skill first and the stat second. The order that costs least is the reverse: pick the weapon family you will actually hold for dozens of hours, then let it set the attribute. The store page’s list of endgame contents — Chaos Dungeon after the main scenario, Boss Raid “with up to 8 players,” Crusade of Glory for free-for-all PvP, and Guilds of up to 50 members — tells you which pressures apply. A build that is fine in Chaos Dungeon may not be the one you want in PvP.

2. Build the rune board around your colour reality, not your wish list. The Undecember rune-linking and gear guide on this site walks the rune and essence loop in detail. The endgame-specific addition is patience about colour: use the Repeat Settings on Birth/Link/Color Essences rather than enchanting one at a time, and treat a white slot from Rune Candor Essence as a planned upgrade rather than a lucky accident, since it both widens colour compatibility and adds a level to the linked rune.

3. Spend trait points toward a Specialization, then stop hedging. With one Specialization active, the trait points that went into the wrong type are not free. The official page notes you can hold traits of different types at the same level, so a hybrid stat spread is legitimate — but the Specialization is the part that cannot be doubled up.

4. Awaken the runes you know you will keep. At the point you have Lv. 30+ Legendary Skill Runes you are not going to replace, Awakening is a straight upgrade. Given that transferring a rune destroys the Awakened option, awaken the copy you intend to keep, and expect the option to move with balance patches — the Jan. 15 update refunded Awakening states with Engraving Stones rather than leaving players stranded.

5. Read the current season’s notes before you commit materials. The Farside season runs on the global service from September 10, 2026 to January 7, 2027, according to the Director’s Letter, and it changed the ground under several builds: a channeling overhaul, new Channeling-exclusive Link Runes like Haste and Overconsumption, an upgrade to the Link Rune that triggers a spell while channeling so it fires “a 100% chance to trigger its Spell every cycle,” and new Specializations — including a Void node that “periodically creates Shadows while Channeling is maintained” and a Bloom node for sustained channeling. It also moved Zodiac Stone acquisition out of the Constellation of Time and into Chaos Dungeon through the Traces of Time event, and added a Rune Cast Preset that stores each rune’s position and unique information so you can reload a setup in one action.

That last one is the quiet win for this reader. Once a build becomes three boards — farming, bossing, PvP — the constraint you feel is setup time, not damage. Presets do not lift the colour and tag limits; they stop you rebuilding the same legal board by hand.
