Persona 3 Reload splits the protagonist’s time between climbing Tartarus and spending days with the people of Port Island. The way those two halves interact is the backbone of the game: every maxed Social Link unlocks an Ultimate Persona for fusion, and a complete Compendium grants bonus Theurgies and summoning discounts. This guide lays out a priority order that respects the school calendar so a single playthrough can reach the endgame with the Compendium filled and the strongest Personas available.
How Social Links feed the Compendium
Each of the game’s arcana maps to a Social Link, and each of those Social Links, when taken to Rank 10, unlocks that arcana’s Ultimate Persona in the Velvet Room. Without the maxed link, the recipe is locked even if you know it. The Fool (S.E.E.S.), Death (Pharos), and Judgement (Nyx Annihilation Team) links rank up automatically with the story, so they require no time investment. That leaves 19 optional links the protagonist must manage against a calendar that begins in April and ends in late January.
Fusing within a link’s arcana while the link is active grants bonus experience to the resulting Persona, scaling with the link’s rank. A Rank 10 link grants the maximum bonus. This is why the order in which you fuse matters as much as what you fuse: fusing late, after a link is maxed, produces stronger Personas for the same cost.
The calendar-efficient priority order
Time is the scarce resource. Some links have narrow availability windows, and missing them can lock you out of a complete Compendium for that run. The links below are ordered by how unforgiving their schedules are, not by raw power.
-
Time-sensitive story links first. Spend available hangout events with the male party members and Ryoji the moment they appear. These scenes are tied to the plot and can be missed. Shinjiro’s scenes cluster in September, Junpei’s and Ryoji’s in November. Completing all of them yields Persona-unlocking items that act like Social Link rewards. Neglect these and several Compendium entries close off.
-
School-day links with strict schedules. Magician (Kenji), Chariot (Kazushi), Justice (Chihiro), Fortune (Keisuke), Sun (Akinari), and Strength (Yuko) are only available on specific school days and during club hours. Sun unlocks only in September and has a short window. Prioritize these whenever they are free, because the school calendar removes large blocks of days for exams and breaks.
-
Evening and conditional links. Empress (Mitsuru) only begins in mid-November and demands high Academics to start. Tower (Mutatsu) requires Courage and only appears at Club Escapade in the evening. Devil (Tanaka) needs high Charm and unlocks through a specific evening sequence. Because these gate behind social stats, raise Courage, Charm, and Academics steadily through study, part-time jobs, and the dorm computer so the links open the day they become available.
-
Flexible community links. Hierophant (Bunkichi and Mitsuko at the bookstore), Hanged Man (Maiko at the shrine), Moon (Nozomi, the Gourmet King), and Temperance (Bebe) have wider windows but still need attention. The Hermit (the online friend “Maya”) is available on most evenings and is one of the easiest to max if visited consistently.
-
Aeon (Aigis) is the last link to unlock and runs close to the endgame. Clear time for it whenever the story permits in the final months.
Social stats that gate the links
Three social stats gate link access, and raising them is the slow path that determines which links open early.
- Academics — required for Empress and several classroom-adjacent events. Study at the dorm on evenings with nothing else to do, answer classroom questions correctly for free points, and use the library.
- Charm — required for Devil. Visit the cafe at night, order the right drinks, and take the chapel job.
- Courage — required for Tower. The hospital night job and certain foods raise it.
Aim to have all three at a high rank before November so the gated links open the day they unlock.
The Compendium fusion plan
Filling the Compendium is the other half of the goal. The Velvet Room offers three fusion methods: Dyad (two Personas), Special (three or more, fixed recipes), and Fusion Search (browse results and pull ingredients from the Compendium). Fusion Search is the primary tool for completion because it shows which Personas you have not yet registered and lets you withdraw ingredients directly.
The flow that respects both the calendar and the Compendium:
- Register everything you draw from Shuffle Time. Every new Persona picked up in Tartarus should be registered before you fuse or dismiss it. Registration is free and is what makes Fusion Search work.
- Fuse in arcs where your link is high or maxed. The bonus experience from an active Social Link turns a same-level fusion into a stronger result. Save the high-arcana Ultimate fusions for after the corresponding link hits Rank 10.
- Use same-arcana fusions to fill gaps. Fusing two Personas of the same arcana produces a lower-level Persona of that arcana. This is the reliable way to fill early Compendium holes without waiting for Shuffle Time to drop a specific Persona.
- Clear Elizabeth’s Requests on schedule. Several requests award key items that unlock otherwise-fused Personas, including Lucifer, King Frost, Nebiros, Thoth, and Hua Po. Treat the request log as a parallel to-do list and complete them as they unlock.
- Clear Linked Episodes. The male party member storylines unlock fusions such as Surt, Horus, Byakko, Michael, and Hell Biker. Completing these yields the items that register those Personas.
- Plan special fusions backward from the endgame. The rarest Personas chain off others. Metatron requires Uriel, Raphael, Gabriel, and Michael. Lucifer requires Samael, Abaddon, Beelzebub, Satan, and Helel. Orpheus Telos is the capstone special fusion, unlocked once every Social Link reaches Rank 10, and it draws on the game’s ultimate Personas. Building these means registering each ingredient first, then withdrawing them through Fusion Search when the special fusion unlocks.
The endgame stretch
By January the calendar is nearly spent. Two final goals remain: reach the top of Tartarus for the true ending and max every link for Orpheus Telos. If every optional link reaches Rank 10, Igor awards the Colorless Mask, which unlocks Orpheus Telos via a special fusion. If any link fell short, a New Game Plus carries the link items forward so the Ultimate Personas stay available without re-maxing.
The bonus Theurgies tied to Compendium combinations reward completion: registering specific Persona pairs unlocks a set of fusion spell Theurgies for the protagonist. A complete Compendium also grants a discount on summoning, which makes the late-game churn of fusing, testing, and re-summoning affordable.
What this plan buys you
Following this order produces three things by the end of January: every Social Link maxed, a Compendium with every Persona registered, and the strongest fusions available for the final ascent. The protagonist can field Orpheus Telos and the top-tier specials, the party carries the Theurgies unlocked through Compendium pairs, and a New Game Plus run starts with every Ultimate Persona already unlocked through carried key items.
A wrinkle worth flagging: the Aeon link with Aigis unlocks late and runs parallel to the final story beats, so protect a few late-January afternoons for it rather than banking every remaining day on Tartarus. The same window is when several Special Fusions that chain off Ultimate Personas — Metatron from the four archangels, Lucifer from the endgame set, Orpheus Telos from the capstone list — finally become available, so leave Macca and a cleared stock for those withdrawals. Planning the last two weeks as fusion days rather than dungeon days is what turns a maxed-link run into a completed Compendium run.
The core discipline is simple: never waste a free day on a link that has time later when a stricter link is available today, keep social stats climbing so gated links open on schedule, and register every Persona the moment it enters your stock. The calendar is the real boss, and this priority order is how you beat it.
