Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2 during its 40th Anniversary Direct presentation on September 8, 2026. Series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased the first gameplay footage, confirming a launch date of November 5, 2026.
Visual & Audio Enhancements
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the 1998 action role-playing game features completely overhauled visuals. The remake introduces fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, and a newly recorded symphonic orchestral soundtrack. The first print run of the physical version will feature special packaging with textured foil cover art, available while supplies last.
Control & Gameplay Updates
Movement and camera systems have been reworked for the modern hardware. Players will have newly added button commands to jump and run freely. Camera control is improved via the Right Stick. Additionally, the game introduces a continuous day/night cycle that persists even when exploring towns.
Tracking & Companion Features
A new feature called “Threads of Time” allows players to track story progress and check their next objective at any point during the adventure. As the journey continues, a large visual chart gradually fills in to represent the player’s path.
The game also integrates with the ZELDA NOTES service on the Nintendo Switch App. This companion app will let players track their adventure, find in-game locations using hint images, play a virtual ocarina, and take a daily quiz with over 2,000 total questions.
Furthermore, players can hum or play one of Link’s learned ocarina melodies within range of the Nintendo Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone, and Link will perform the corresponding song in the game.
Hardware & Amiibo Integration
A Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system launches on October 29. New amiibo figures of Young Link and Young Zelda will arrive in 2027, unlocking special in-game masks that evoke a retro graphical style.
