AMD used its IFA 2026 keynote to introduce the Threadripper Halo Station, a liquid-cooled workstation designed to run AI models exceeding one trillion parameters locally rather than through cloud infrastructure. The announcement signals continued investment in workstation-class AI hardware that lets developers control where data is processed and how large models are deployed.
Hardware Configuration
The Halo Station pairs the 96-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX processor with up to four Instinct MI350P accelerators. The CPU, code-named Shimada Peak, uses AMD’s Zen 5 architecture and offers 192 threads with a boost clock up to 5.4 GHz. It supports up to 2 TB of DDR5DDR5. A generation of system RAM (memory); newer and faster than DDR4. system memory.
Each Instinct MI350P card includes 144 GB of HBM3E memory and delivers 4 TB/s of memory bandwidth. AMD demonstrated a two-card configuration at IFA with 288 GB of HBM3E. A fully configured four-accelerator model reaches 576 GB of HBM3E — sufficient, per AMD, to hold a trillion-parameter model on the machine itself. The company noted the MI350P’s 4 TB/s bandwidth is 14 times higher than any LPDDR5X variant.
Cooling and Power
The system has substantial power and cooling requirements. Each MI350P accelerator can draw up to 600 watts of total board power. AMD stated the cards are independently liquid-cooled, and the Threadripper processor has a dedicated liquid-cooling setup.
Unanswered Questions
AMD has not announced pricing, availability, or full system specifications. The company did not detail storage, networking, or chassis options. It also did not clarify whether the Halo Station will be sold directly by AMD or through workstation manufacturers and system integrators. Jack Huynh, AMD’s senior vice president and general manager of Computing and Graphics, described the product as a new workstation category bringing “supercomputer-class compute” to individual users and developers.
