Legacy of the Bloodmoon has been live since 28 August 2026, and its twelve characters hide behind each other: open a coffin, evolve a weapon, and the next character’s starting weapon is in your hands. It is a chain, not a checklist.

No other Vampire Survivors article exists on this site, so nothing here overlaps. The nearest sibling is Isaac Rebirth Completion Marks and Unlock Roadmap, which does the same job for a mark grid — but Isaac’s marks are parallel and independent, and Bloodmoon’s are serial. That difference is the whole article.

What this covers: all twelve Legacy of the Bloodmoon character unlocks as the wiki states them, the evolution chain that gates the middle of the roster, the stage facts in Red Moon Manor that the grinds depend on, and the unlock-related fixes in patch 1.16.111. Why it matters: five of the twelve sit behind an evolution or a union rather than exploration, and two of those additionally require you to be holding a specific passive item at the moment the evolution resolves. Getting the order wrong costs full 30-minute runs. Who should care: anyone who bought the $0.99 pack, and anyone who bounced off it because the roster looked empty.

What version this describes

Everything below assumes 1.16.111, which the 16 October 2026 patch post calls “the stable version of VS”, adding that “the patch is also being rolled out to other platforms”. At launch poncle stated that “all platforms will be on stable version 1.16.100 or higher”, with 1.16.105 slated for Android and Switch by the end of the following week. The same post says the next content update is “still several weeks away” and that a public beta, 1.17.108, already holds much of it — so treat these conditions as current for 1.16.111 and re-check on 1.17.

The expansion released 28 August 2026, is developed and published by poncle, and requires the base game. The announcement put the price at “approximately 1 money (0.99 USD)” and the wiki’s infobox records $0.99; storefronts localise that per region, so the figure you see will not be the dollar one. What it contains, per the release post: 12 characters, “16+ new weapons and evolutions, including a FireBall”, 11 music tracks, 1 adventure and “1 new very large stage”. The wiki’s feature list names eighteen of those weapons and evolutions; the stage is Red Moon Manor.

The twelve unlocks in one table

Conditions are quoted from each character’s wiki page. “Base gold” is the wiki’s listed cost, and the Characters page states the rule that governs it: all non-secret characters “need to be purchased using gold, increased by 10% additively per characters purchased”. So the numbers below are floors, not the price you will pay late in a file.

CharacterUnlock conditionStarting weaponBase gold
Malice BloodmoonFind and open the coffin in Red Moon ManorScarlet Needle1,000

Megalo SargonHold the Velvet Dodecahedron and obtain the FireStall with SargonFireStall100,000
Baal’ThamutHold the Velvet Dodecahedron and obtain the Damnation with Baal’ThasarDamnation100,000

Two structural facts fall out of that table. First, Malice — the face of the pack — is a coffin pickup inside the new stage, so buying the DLC grants the stage outright and every character still has a condition. Second, the bottom two rows ask 100,000 gold each, against 500 for Jaman Jato ★.

Five unlocks are evolution-gated, and the catalysts are all in the manor

This is the part that catches people. The condition is not “reach level 8 with X”; it is “evolve X”, which means holding the weapon, holding its catalyst, and opening a chest at the right time. The wiki’s weapon pages give the pairings plainly.

Megalo SargonFireStallunion of Sargon’s three fire weapons—FireStall
Baal’ThamutDamnationBaal’Thasar’s starting weaponTorrona’s BoxDamnation

The useful finding is on the Red Moon Manor page’s stage-item list. The manor spawns Pummarola twice, Duplicator twice, Candelabrador twice and Torrona’s Box twice, plus one Velvet Dodecahedron. In other words, the stage hands you every catalyst the chain requires, in duplicate, so a failed evolution is a routing mistake rather than bad luck.

The Velvet Dodecahedron is the exception to that comfort. It is a passive item with a maximum level of 6 whose maximum effect is “+60% Greed, +60% Growth, -50% Max Health”, and the stage page carries a note on it: the player “must collect this passive once before it can appear”. Both 100,000-gold unlocks require you to be holding it at the moment the evolution resolves — FireStall for Megalo Sargon, Damnation for Baal’Thamut — so those two runs are a three-part checklist (character, weapon, Dodecahedron) and not a normal run with a bonus.

FireStall is worth spelling out because the store copy jokes about it. It is not an evolution with a catalyst; its requirement is the union of FireFall, FireBall and FireWall, and Sargon starts with all three. The work is levelling them and finding a chest, not hunting a passive.

What 1.16.111 actually changed about unlocking

The 16 October hotfix post is short and four of its lines touch unlocking directly. Verbatim:

  • “Fixed some evos not always registering for unlocking Bloodmoon characters”
  • “Fixed Emerald and Joker Disks sometimes not unlocking stages”
  • “Fixed Survarots not working properly if unlocked via spells”
  • “Fixed prices on Bloodmoon evos”

The first line is the one that matters most, and it is also the least specific. It confirms that evolution-based unlocks could silently fail — the condition is an evolution, and an evolution that did not register meant a character that did not appear — but it does not name which evolutions or which characters were affected. If you evolved the Scarlet Needle before 16 October and Calogero never showed up, this patch is the explanation, and the fix is presumably retroactive in the sense that the condition now evaluates; the post does not say whether an affected save is repaired automatically. Re-do the evolution to be safe.

The second line reaches outside the DLC. The Emerald Disk and the Joker Disk are relics that “permanently unlock” a stage — the Emerald Diorama and the Ante Chamber respectively. Each can be bought for 50,000 from Xanthia on the left side of Moongolow, or unlocked through the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane by casting a spell (the wiki gives “washingmachine” for the Emerald Disk and “differenttypeofstake” for the Joker Disk). The bug being fixed was these relics failing to grant their stage, which is the same class of failure as a non-registering evolution: the condition was met, the reward was not paid.

The Survarots line matters for one specific unlock table row. Survarots are a Power Creep setting, enabled before a run, unlocked via the Survarocchi relic purchased from Big Troubler in The Lycaeum, and they can be obtained by breaking light sources. They are also, per the Red Moon Manor page, one of two Power Creep options disabled inside the new stage “until they have defeated all 4 main bosses”. So the hotfix’s spell-path repair touches a system you cannot use in the manor until the manor is finished.

The fourth line — “Fixed prices on Bloodmoon evos” — is not expanded on anywhere I could find, so do not plan around it.

One further quality-of-life change came with 1.16.100 and is directly useful here: “Quickstart: it now tries to pick a character and/or stage that is linked to a missing unlock”. 1.16.111 then fixed “QuickStart getting stuck on the same few setups on late game save files”. For a twelve-character chain, that turns the stage-select screen into a suggestion engine, which is a cheaper way to find your next link than re-reading a table.

The manor facts the grinds depend on

The wiki calls Red Moon Manor the XL stage of the pack. It runs 30:00, with a x1.4 player move speed modifier and a x1.5 gold multiplier, and it has four unique bosses that are summoned rather than found by wandering:

BossHow it appears
AshtartWhenever the player enters the manor itself
SargonA button on the north side of the stage, above Descent Into Misery
CongregationWhenever the player enters the maze section
Baal’ThasarAt the far end of a Room 1665-like area, reached by a pentagram teleporter in the centre of the maze

Defeating Baal’Thasar ends the stage “via the White Hand”, which is why Nameless Saint is the awkward unlock: four bosses, one run, and the fourth closes the map. The page also notes that “sources of flight and wall clipping will not allow the player to bypass these walls; bosses must be defeated to progress”, and that in co-op “each player must teleport to this area, and the following fight, on their own” — a co-op group cannot carry one player through the teleport.

For Malice, the coffin is “to the southwest of Descent Into Misery, before the entrance to the maze section of the map”. For Jaman Jato ★, the 6,000 Jaman Jatos are summoned by approaching certain stage items and by standing in specific areas, and the page names a farming spot: “the alcove in the northeast section of the maze, above the northmost Pummarola”. The Kujata statue that In’ Kujata needs is a landmark on the same map — the Gold Ring is placed “southwest of the In’ Kujata statue”.

Two conditional details will cost you a run if you miss them. The stage’s 108 Responsive Prayers entry carries the same note as the Velvet Dodecahedron — the player must collect it once before it can appear — and 108 Bocce only spawns in the manor if you own Legacy of the Moonspell and have already collected it. Since In’ Kujata accepts either weapon, a player without Moonspell is not locked out, but is on the Responsive Prayers route whether they planned to be or not.

Hyper mode is its own unlock: defeat Batti Lei, who spawns at 25:00, or cast “midadeltu” in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane. Hyper adds +60% move speed, +50% gold and +10% luck, which makes it the better place to bank the 100,000-gold purchases.

A defensible order

The following order is my reading of the pages above, not a wiki recommendation, and it is sequenced so that each run hands you the next link.

  1. Enter Red Moon Manor on any character and open Malice’s coffin. You now hold Scarlet Needle.
  2. Play Malice. Take Pummarola from the stage and evolve Scarlet Needle into Cardinal Rain. This unlocks Calogero, who starts with Ashella.
  3. Play Calogero with Duplicator. Evolve Ashella into Bloodlust. Ashtart appears, holding Incineration.
  4. Play Ashtart with Candelabrador. Evolve Incineration into Dust to Dust. Sargon appears with his three fire weapons.
  5. Play Sargon. Level FireFall, FireBall and FireWall and form FireStall — and on the run where you also hold the Velvet Dodecahedron, that same chest unlocks Megalo Sargon.
  6. In parallel, pick up Descent Into Misery and level it to 9 for Nameless Fool, then die seven times with him for Congregation. Deaths are cumulative, so these runs are short by design.
  7. Then do the four-boss run for Nameless Saint, finishing with Baal’Thasar so the kill also satisfies his own unlock.
  8. Finally, Baal’Thasar with Torrona’s Box and the Velvet Dodecahedron for Damnation, which unlocks Baal’Thamut.
  9. Leave the 6,000 Jaman Jatos and the Kujata statue for whenever you want a change of pace; neither gates anything else.

Steps 6 and 8 can be reordered freely, and step 9 fits anywhere. The only hard constraints are the chain in 1–5 and the single-run condition on step 7.

What no source states

Six things I looked for and could not confirm, so nothing above asserts them.

The Red Moon Manor page is marked as a stub and its Waves section reads “TBA”, so there is no documented wave-by-wave enemy timing for the stage. The Jaman Jato page writes the enemy as “Jamon Jatos” while the stage page writes “Jaman Jatos” — same condition, same 6,000, two spellings, and I have used the stage’s. The character page says “a total of 6,000”, which reads as cumulative across runs, while the stage page says only “defeating 6,000” without qualifying a single run; I have taken the cumulative reading and flagged it. And no page states whether the evolution-gated unlocks require you to be playing the character who owns the weapon, so the order above uses that character as the reliable route rather than the only one.

Beyond those, the wiki gives an aggregate “169 characters” across the DLCs with “56 of them being secret ones” but no per-expansion split, so I cannot tell you how many of Bloodmoon’s twelve are secret. And the pack’s adventure is listed as a feature everywhere and named nowhere I could fetch.
